[…] Carl DeLine – an active member of Calgary’s The Friends of the Back Door, a program that helps street kids get back to a normal life – has a special recollection of Christmas in 1980.

He and his wife were living in Calgary and decided to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas.

They exchanged gifts on each of the 12 days leading up to the 25th. The special part of the gift giving was not the actual gifts, but the thought put into each one, and the idea of celebrating the season between just the two of them.

“We didn’t ask each other what they wanted or what they needed,” said DeLine. “Instead (we) gave each other things that we felt they wanted.” […]
