Blender lists the “100 Greatest American Albums”

Blender has compiled and released a list of the “100 Greatest American Albums.” While lists of the sort have never been universally appeasing, by overlooking so many keystone American musicians it is one of the most controversial in recent memory. Paul Westerberg questions “the veracity of this list,” and after reading it you might have a lot of questions yourself. Questions like: if Leonard Cohen is left off the list, why include a total of four albums by Canadians Neil Young and Joni Mitchell? Questions like why include Hole in the list but not Smashing Pumpkins, Westerberg’s Replacements but not Hüsker Dü, Tori Amos but not Liz Phair, The Minutemen but not Black Flag, Bad Brains, The Dead Kennedys or Minor Threat? Is Kid Rock’s Devil Without a Cause really more worthy than releases from The Stooges, CCR, The White Stripes or Charlie Parker which aren’t included in list? And most importantly, is Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection really the greatest American album of all time? (Blender’s 100 Greatest American Albums)
